AND VIDEO DOCUMENTARY
The Pitquhirnikkut Ilihautiniq / Kitikmeot Heritage Society uses video documentary and digital storytelling as a way to increase local involvement and voice in Inuinnait research. We believe that digital literacy plays a critical role in allowing Inuit to transfer culture and knowledge to younger generations and shape global understandings of who they are. Our community video program focuses on training youth, adults and Elders to use digital media to document both cultural programs and their own lives. Participants learn to use video cameras, sound recording devices and editing software to assemble these documentaries. Many of the videos are recorded only in Inuinnaqtun, providing valuable resources for the continuation of this oral language.
All videos are stored in our Cambridge Bay archives and community theatre database, and many are uploaded to our Youtube and IsumaTV channels for global audiences. Click the image links to watch a selection of featured videos.
